Seasonal Guide
Draining Your Spa
Under normal usage, you should change the water in your Shoreline Spa™ every
three or four months. For your convenience, all Shoreline models are equipped
with the innovative Quick Drain™ system, which empties your spa using only
a standard garden hose.
For trouble-free draining, follow these simple steps:
- Turn off the electrical power to your spa.
- Attach a garden hose to your Quick Drain outlet.
- The single-fixture Quick Drain can be opened by pushing in
on the spring-loaded handle and turning it counter-clockwise
until it stops. To close the valve, rotate the handle clockwise
until it pops back out.
- Any remaining water in your spa can be scooped or siphoned
out.
When draining your spa, it is recommended that you not drain directly
onto the grass or other vegetation as the chemicals from the spa
water may damage plant life.
Winterize Your Spa – It’s Easy!
A Shoreline Spa™ is the perfect winter retreat,
offering a warm and bubbly escape from the cold weather. It
couldn’t be easier to enjoy your spa all year round with
a Shoreline Spa. Simply make certain that the thermostat is set
to keep the water warm.
When you aren’t using your spa,
be sure to keep it covered. This will help to maintain the water’s
heat and save on your energy bills. Also, be sure your cover
is secured properly and in good shape for maximum heat savings.
Many spa owners also invest in a floating thermal blanket, placed
between the water and the cover. This can drastically cut down
on heat loss.
If you don’t plan to use your spa in freezing
conditions, go ahead and drain it completely before the first
chance of a hard freeze. This is not a task you want to tackle
in frosty conditions, so be sure to get a jump on the harshest
weather. To winterize your spa, follow these simple steps:
- Drain the spa as explained in the "Draining Your Spa" section.
- If your spa is equipped with a blower system, open
the air controls and briefly run the air blower according to
the manufacturer’s recommendations to purge the lines
of water.
- Be sure that ALL water is removed from the spa.
- Shut off all electrical power at the breaker box.
- Disconnect the unions from the equipment module to allow
the water in the spa lines and equipment module to drain.
- If your spa is equipped with dual pumps, remove the pump-to-pump
water circulation line connected to the front of both pump
housings, and drain all water from the pump housings and the
line, then reconnect the line.
- If your spa is equipped with a single pump, remove the drain
plug on the pump housing to allow water to drain out of the
pump. Replace the drain plug.
- Open all air controls to allow trapped water to drain through
jets.
- Remove the filter element from the filter housing and see
that the filter housing is dry. If water is left in the filter
housing it will freeze and cause the housing to crack.
- Using a wet/dry shop vacuum, vacuum out each of the lines
at the point where you disconnected the unions from the equipment
module. Also, put the vacuum hose up against the face of each
jet opening to vacuum out any water remaining in their supply
lines.
- Cover your spa with your spa cover and be sure it is
locked in place.
